Fronted by British singer Tony T, along with German DJ Yanou Manian and US singer U-Jean, R.I.O have made waves with their club smash Turn This Club Around. Already amassing number ones in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands, the song is proving popular throughout Europe. But lead vocalist U-Jean admits that the popularity of the track has caught him unaware. &ldquo;When I think about being number one, it feels surreal,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;I feel like I freed up some space on my to-do list. It wasn&rsquo;t something I planed, but I am humbled by the fact that I have been number one. It&rsquo;s no wonder that this song is doing so well. Europe seems to want a feel good track at this moment in time, something R.I.O easily provided. &ldquo;In the process of making the song, the vibe was extremely good. There was nothing but positivity in the room, and when I was singing that song I was really happy. &ldquo;I am surprised that it has done so well, but I&rsquo;m glad it has. It&rsquo;s about getting people out of the seriousness of everyday hustle and bustle.&rdquo; In a relatively new union, the former US communications soldier joined with Tony T and Yanuo in 2011 via Facebook, after the pair saw the singer on stage in Germany. &ldquo;I thought he [Yanou] was someone who would waste my time,&rdquo; U-Jean admits. &ldquo;But he said he wanted to work with me. He thought I lived in Atlanta but I actually live in Frankfurt, so we got together, did some recordings and Turn This Club Around was created.&rdquo; Although the multi-national trio have since developed a good working chemistry, U-Jean admits they do face barriers on certain levels. &ldquo;We work extremely well together; as far as the overall entertainment factor goes, we really get along. BIG DREAMS: U-Jean and, far right, R.I.O’s single, Turn This Club Around

YOU MAY not have heard about dance group R.I.O just yet, but they are quite a sensation in Europe. Fronted by British singer Tony T, along with German DJ Yanou Manian and US singer U-Jean, R.I.O have made waves with their club smash Turn This Club Around.

Already amassing number ones in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands, the song is proving popular throughout Europe. But lead vocalist U-Jean admits that the popularity of the track has caught him unaware.

“When I think about being number one, it feels surreal,” he says. “I feel like I freed up some space on my to-do list. It wasn’t something I planed, but I am humbled by the fact that I have been number one.

It’s no wonder that this song is doing so well. Europe seems to want a feel good track at this moment in time, something R.I.O easily provided.

“In the process of making the song, the vibe was extremely good. There was nothing but positivity in the room, and when I was singing that song I was really happy.

“I am surprised that it has done so well, but I’m glad it has. It’s about getting people out of the seriousness of everyday hustle and bustle.”

In a relatively new union, the former US communications soldier joined with Tony T and Yanuo in 2011 via Facebook, after the pair saw the singer on stage in Germany.

“I thought he [Yanou] was someone who would waste my time,” U-Jean admits. “But he said he wanted to work with me. He thought I lived in Atlanta but I actually live in Frankfurt, so we got together, did some recordings and Turn This Club Around was created.”

Although the multi-national trio have since developed a good working chemistry, U-Jean admits they do face barriers on certain levels.

Like a long list of black American stars who are turning away from the more traditional black music genre of R‘n’B music, in order to make the current chart-topping dance music, U-Jean admitted that electro sounds have a more optimistic feel.

“I grew up on R‘n’B but I find dance has a very positive vibe and in the end, it’s all about peace of mind, and I really do appreciate peace in life.”
